About this Courses

Technical Industrial Patternmaker - Biennial Program

The Biennial Course

Studying to become a Technical Industrial Patternmaker at an Italian academy in Tirana or Milan with an Italian methodology is the dream of many young people who wish to work in the fashion industry. They aim to acquire technical skills and the precision needed to become engineers in the fashion industry.

This professional figure is essential in transforming designers' ideas into ready-to-wear fashion collections and productions. Without this role, the garments presented at Milan Fashion Week and other prêt-à-porter shows would remain mere fashion sketches, and bespoke fashion would be the only available option.

Our two-year Technical Industrial Patternmaker course trains students beyond the second level of basic pattern development and manual variations. Additionally, it specializes students in transferring these results into CAD for the industry, preparing digital patterns readable by automatic cutting machines for fashion collection production.

Students will gain expertise in handling variant details, from the technical sheet to the sample, with the final fabric, the defect-correction phase both physically and on avatars. The course also covers automatic size development and fabric-saving optimization.

  • Translate a designer’s idea from a fashion sketch and technical sheet into a functional garment with perfect fit.
  • Apply advanced and innovative techniques to optimize fabric savings, reduce waste, and protect the environment, allowing the industry to save time and money.
  • Analyze fabrics and work with materials, gaining advanced knowledge about yarns, dyes, elasticity percentages, and pre-dyed fabrics, understanding their reactions concerning garment industry tolerances.
  • Reduce the error margin to zero, preventing economic damage to the company through precise formulas for a perfect foundation and the ability to adapt fashion variations.
  • Develop into a highly technical figure with strong creative abilities, capable of providing immediate and innovative solutions for creating garments that are not only aesthetically beautiful but also functional and comfortable, supporting sales to the final customer.
  • Become the designer’s right-hand person, assuming a crucial role in the fashion industry.
  • Follow the entire production process, from working in the style office to sample making, defect correction, and creating industrial cutting-ready patterns, accompanied by a detailed technical sheet with fabric specifications, tolerances, yarns, accessories, and labels.

What You Will Learn

  • How to develop a complete pattern and prototype, from pattern drafting to realization and defect correction.
  • Advanced techniques for transferring defective patterns into CAD.
  • Automatic size development and pattern placement for automatic cutting or plotting.
  • Practical and creative work by engaging with industry experts, tackling real-world fashion challenges, and providing practical solutions to designers for a finished, comfortable, beautiful, and marketable garment.

First Year - What You Will Learn

  • Understanding human measurements and developing the foundation of total-look women’s fashion patterns in industrial size 42.
  • Textile technology: in-depth knowledge of fabrics, reading technical sheets and tolerances, including elasticity percentages, and how they react to different garment-making and dyeing processes.
  • Industrial prototype preparation with final fabric, garment, and pattern defect correction.
  • Creation of a perfect prototype in terms of fit and comfort.
  • Manual pattern transfer into digital CAD format.
  • Fabric-saving placement using Daimino CAD to minimize waste and protect the environment and company costs.
  • Final technical sheet preparation to support the project.

Second Year - What You Will Learn

  • Fashion design adaptation: modifying the pattern while maintaining the desired volume and shape but adapting it to industry standards and providing solutions for garments that are both stylish and comfortable.
  • Knowledge of all fashion accessories design.
  • Pattern modification from the base, prototype creation with final fabric, and pattern defect correction.
  • Technical patterns: transferring the final pattern into CAD, placement, size development, and detailed technical sheet preparation for final industrial production.
